Western Region Elite Development and A League Sept. 12th Ď02

Elite Development

This is an off season for the Regional Belle AAA team. It is however a Team Ontario Season, with one girl from Western Region on this Team. Jessica Boersma from Mitchell, who plays on the Waterloo Belle AA team. We wish her a lot of success on this Team. The Canada Winter Games are in Campbellton-Bathhurst, New Brunswick in February 2003.

This Team is doing a lot of Fundraising. Tim Hortonís Coupons are available for $10.00 a book for 5 coupons of $2.00. Tim Hortonís will give you change back if the full $2.00 is not used.

Everybody seems to drink Tim Hortonís coffee, so please lets support Team Ontario.

We were asked if Western Region would host a weekend for Team Ontario. This would require 10 hours of ice, billeting for players. The available weekends are Jan 30-Feb 2nd or Feb 7th to the 9th. The Team will provide Informal coaching clinic (1 to 2 hrs) and Two or three 1 hour on ice player clinics with your houseleague, B&C players and coaches. Financially, this may not be viable for one association, so this could be accomplished through finding sponsorships for the ice time, through the different associations, the region or local businesses.

Please, if you are interested, let us know.

A/AA League

The A/AA League had their first meeting of the Season on Tuesday night. There is the potential for about 30 teams. 8 Petite A, 6 Tween A, 2 Tween AA, 4 Junior A, 2 Junior AA, 3 Belle A, 3 Belle AA and 2 Open A. If an association has a strong B Team, I would recommend joining the A/AA League, since it may be easier to reseed to B, compared to being reseeded to A.

We need the Official Teams, icetimes, if there are shot clocks available in your arenas, and will you be allowed to use them. This information can be emailed to me no later than September 25th.

The Constitution and the minutes from the May 28th meeting are available on the Web site (www.wrra.ca) for anybody to view. I strongly recommend that everybody, that is considering hosting A or AA Teams, read these.

In as much as possible, all games in the A/AA League will be played with Shot Clocks, this includes the Petite Division (45 Seconds). We have 6 sets available to us for any associations that donít have these in their Arenas. These Clocks will have to Travel around from center to center, depending on the Schedule. For all usage of these clocks, we need to keep a log.

The next meeting for the League is Tuesday, October 15th at the Upper Optimist Hall at 7:30 pm. Each Team is required to have one representative at these meetings.

Please, spread the word, give your coaches all the information they need. If there are any questions, please donít hesitate to contact either Ginette or myself.
