WORL A/AA League
March 7, 2006
Optimist Hall, Dorchester
WORL President Peter Westelaken called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. approved by Stratford and seconded by St. Clements.
Attendance:
Since the Secretary forgot to send the attendance paper around we do not have a recording of who attended. We did have a whole room full of people.
Agenda:
Minutes:
The minutes of the December 13th meeting were read by Shirley Verhoeve and approved by Chatham and seconded by Stratford.
Discussion from previous minutes:
Fines: After much discussion we decided that we would let every team know the amount they would have had to pay in fines and starting next years fines will be levied.
Executive Reports:
Scheduler: Scott Borland gave an update on how the schedule ran for this season. It was suggested that we might not want as many games in the second half. We had some problems with teams not getting all of their games in. Much discussion was games not played as well as teams playing games for double or triple points. This will be brought up at the AGM meeting in April.
Every effort must be made by all teams to have games played within the allotted time frame. Teams must be prepared to explain in detail why games were not played.
Motion: Bill Rodgers from Chatham moved that the league play towards a league champion at all levels. Seconded by Kathy Walt Carried
Treasurer / Registrar:
Donna Jones gave the treasurer’s report and we have $5270.79 in our account. Keith Kasier is going to go into the bank and get some service charges reversed.
A motion was made to accept the treasurer’s report by Forest and seconded by St. Marys.
VP Suspension / Referee
Bill Kaiser was unable to attend. Nothing to report.
Convenors:
Petite: 5 games not played, one has been rescheduled and four have not been.
Tween: 2 games to be rescheduled
Junior: a few outstanding games, season mostly ran smooth
Belle: whole bunch of games to be rescheduled. Question was raised on why London had so many not played games. Answer: Late determining level of play and lack of ice time as the schedule had already been finished for this division.
Prelim Tournament Review:
Waterloo and Elora Fergus did an excellent job of hosting prelims for the A & AA teams. If any association would like to host prelims next year, you will require two ice pads and a lot of volunteers.
The ideal dates for prelims next year would be:
A teams: February 16 – 18 2007
AA Teams: February 2 – 4 2007
Keith Kasier explained prelim funding.
Associations can send in request or proposals to Western Region on how they feel prelims should be run.
Provincials 2007
A Teams: Chatham (March 22 -25 2007)
AA Teams: need host (March 8 – 11 2007)
Wild Card:
Chris Beuglet President of Western Region Ringette Association was in attendance and explained to all how the wild card process works. This was a lengthy discussion. This can be found under Games and Tournament in the ORA Manual Page 13 (Selection of Wild Card Entry)
An Ad hoc committee has been set up and they will make recommendations as to the best format for the 2008 Provincials. I have included the Memorandum please discuss with your coaches and association presidents. Any changes to the wild card process must be sent into Chris or a committee member by April 15, 2006.
Petite A & AA Format:
Chris Beuglet would also like to hear from all associations on how they feel about the current Petite format.
The annual ORA General Meeting will be held in Ottawa the weekend of May 27th, 2006.
Chris would like to see all associations represented at this AGM.
