My name is Sheri Markle and I am the new coordinator for the Western Region Adult Development Program. Throughout the 2004 Adult Provincials, surveys pertaining to the future direction of the Adult program were distributed to members of participating teams. The ORA standing committee meetings have been held and some decisions have been made based on the survey results.

In response to concerns about lack of host, inconsistent quality of referees and quality of competition, the ADP committee has requested that for the year 2006 onward, the Open A division be included in the minor Provincial Championships. The division would follow the rules put forth by the games and tournaments committee.

As there would only be one Open A team per region represented at the Provincial tournament, this leaves a void for other adult teams who would like the opportunity to compete at a Provincial level. In response, the ADP has motioned to host an end of season Challenge Tournament for all levels of Open and Masters divisions (AA - Rec). This tournament is to be held on the same weekend as the Adult Provincials (1st weekend in April beginning in 2006).

Markham Ringette has made a 3-5 year commitment to host the Adult Challenge Tournament at the Scarborough Ice Sports Complex. Not only is this association our 2005 Adult Provincial Host, in terms of central location and facility quality, this complex is second to none.

Although the tournament committee is still being formed, ice time and facility reservation is underway. To ensure enough ice is reserved it is important to have an idea of the interest level. It is my request that you relay the above information to any and all Adult Ringette teams/players within your association. A response of interest level and/or intent to attend would be appreciated on or before November 30th, 2004.

Thank you for your consideration on this matter,

I look forward to your response.

Sheri Markle

Western Region ADP Coordinator

Adult Challenge Tournament

All levels of Adult teams invited to attend Open AA - C, Masters and Rec.

Canlan Ice Sports - Markham Road, Scarborough (for the next 3-5 years)

1st weekend in April (unless conflicted by Easter holiday)

the tournament is tentatively planned to follow a 3 day format (Fri-Sun)

Further Details:

Open A teams that attend the 2006 Provincials may also attend the Adult Challenge Tournament.

Based on league and tournament performance, Adult Ontario Ringette Teams will be seeded twice throughout the season to ensure proper division placement and overall quality of competition.

AA and A divisions will attract higher level referees thereby improving the overall quality of the officiating.

Adult only tournament allows for adult-oriented social events and sponsorship.

Central location and large complex can comfortably accommodate a large number of teams and still leave room for expansion of the tournament.

3-5 year commitment from Markham Host relieves the pressure of recruiting a new host year after year.

Set location also helps to standardize budget and operations and build relationships with sponsors, hotels, restaurants, corporate partners, etc.
